New PowerMac G5
Earlier this week my new dual-core PowerMac G5 arrived. I have been waiting for the dual core versions because noise and power consumption are a factor for me so I did not want one of the multi-processor systems. I have not been disappointed; this machine is very quiet and fast.
I have been using a 12" PowerBook G4 for a while now and have been quite happy with it, but it has performance problems when handling my 8 megapixel digital camera raw files as well as my recent adventures with video editing.

hey i have a g4 and im using os 10.2.8. i just purchased a pioneer dvr-110d and installed it. it works fine as a regular cd rom but whenever i try to burn a disk in itunes it says "no disc burner or software intalled". i'm guessing thats becuase i don't have the correct driver but i haven't had any luck looking for support online and then i stumbled across your blog. i've downloaded patchburn and it didnt help. did you have this problem with your 110?
This drive came pre-installed when I purchased my G5. OS X 10.4 comes with built-in support for the drive.
Some things to try/note: Make sure you're using Patchburn 1.1 for 10.2.8, try logging in as another user to see if it is a user specific problem, and also note that 10.2.8 does not support many disc types including DVD+R or dual layer DVDs (although this shouldn't affect CD burning in iTunes).
Something else I've commonly seen with Patchburn is confusion over which drive to do the patch to; sometimes the order displayed doesn't make sense; and not following through clicking the right buttons. Make sure you're selecting the right drive, and if it didn't ask you to reboot, you didn't go far enough in the installer.
If none of this helps, the best advice I can give would be to get a copy of OS X 10.4.
