Encountered an excellent video explaining how the world really works this morning; an excellent summary of social studies in a less than 20 minute lesson.
Some points from the video I found enlightening:
corruption in a democracy is inevitable as a vital tool of power
democracies are not better because of better rulers, but because the needs of citizens better align with the rulers in democracies
democracies happen naturally when the resources needed for greater treasure need educated people to produce it
revolts tend to not happen in democracies because key supporters know about the cull that is coming, but it becomes worth it to the keys if quality of life gets too bad or there is a great treasure to take
we get republics instead of true democracies because it allows the rulers to keep power while providing a sufficient illusion of control to fool most of the people
People do what is in their own best interests, and our governments reflect this reality. Government that is good for the people happens only when keeping the people intelligent and productive is good for the government.
