I do a lot of photography using
rather high end equipment, and am not used to working within the limitations of equipment with lesser capabilities. With the fall colors however, I saw quite a few pictures while wandering around where I had nothing but my cell phone with me. My first instinct was to run and get a better camera, but that isn't always practical. I tried some shots with my cell phone (a Motorolla V600) and was
pleasantly surprised with the result. The resolution is awful, and the fixed focus extremely limiting, but working within those limits made for a rather interesting picture.
I listen to
Tips from the Top Floor, where recently they have been discussing how giving yourself an assignment with limits can increase your creativity. I can see it definitely makes for compositions I may not have tried with a wider selection of angles. For example in this picture I probably would have tried to include the Capitol Dome, which was in the background. This would have taken away from the interesting angles and lines in this picture, however, drawing the viewer away from the benches and trees. The blur on the left also provides an interesting element here that I likely would not have tried with any other camera.
I will definitely have to explore this type of photography more.
